Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry: Fix the Chip, Keep the Tooth Honest

Tooth-coloured fillings, bonding, veneers, and cosmetic crowns — how Dental Castle repairs damage without turning your smile into a filter.

Cosmetic and restorative dentistry belong in the same chair. A dark metal filling at the front, a chipped incisor from a steel tumbler, or edges that have worn short — these are strength problems and appearance problems together. We repair so the tooth can work, and so you do not hide it in photographs.

What we use, and when

  • Tooth-coloured fillings — replace decay or old metal where enough tooth remains. Layered to match enamel, not a chalky blob.
  • Cosmetic bonding — composite sculpted onto chips, small gaps, or uneven length. Conservative. May need polish over the years.
  • Ceramic veneers — thin shells for colour and shape when bonding will not hide the stain or the outline change is larger.
  • Cosmetic crowns — when the tooth is too broken for a veneer or filling.
  • A sequenced smile plan — whitening, then bonding, then veneers if still needed, so we do not over-prepare on day one.

Conservative on purpose

Every time we drill, we spend enamel we cannot put back. If a small bond will do, we will not sell a row of veneers. If grinding is destroying edges, we treat the habit (night guard, bite) or the new edges will fail. If gums are inflamed, we treat periodontics first so the new smile does not sit on swollen tissue.

What the consult is for

Photographs, a mirror conversation about what bothers you, and a preview. You should leave knowing: filling versus bond versus veneer, how many visits, and what we will not do. Instagram is not a treatment plan.

Do white fillings stain?

They can pick up tea and turmeric at the margins over years. Good polish, less sipping of staining drinks, and timely replacement of leaking edges keep them quiet. Ceramic stains less than composite.

Can you close a gap without braces?

Small gaps, sometimes with bonding or veneers. Larger gaps and crowded bites belong in orthodontics first — closing them with porcelain alone can make teeth look like wide shutters.
